Das Thema wird bleiben: Wie umweltfreundlich sind eigentlich Online- und vor Ort-Formate in der Bildung? Tony Bates nimmt einen aktuellen Artikel (“Is effective online learning bad for the environment?”) zum Anlaß, um über verschiedene Optionen und ihren Energieverbrauch nachzudenken: Videokonferenzen (mit ein- oder ausgeschalteten Kameras), Learning Management Systeme und Lehre auf dem Campus. Nun sind Energiekosten das eine, die didaktischen Anforderungen und Notwendigkeiten das andere. Aber es lohnt sich in jedem Fall, darüber mehr nachzudenken.

Im Artikel werden auch Zahlen genannt bzw. zitiert, zum Beispiel: “A standard video conference uses 2.5 gigabytes per hour and has a carbon footprint of 157 g of CO2. If one individual has 15 one-hour meetings in a week, his monthly carbon footprint would be 9.4 kg.” Hier benötige ich zumindest eine Lesehilfe bzw. Vergleichswerte, um solche Informationen einordnen zu können.
